Growing Leadership Capability and Performance
Over the years, PCA has delivered multiple executive and leadership coaching and development programs with companies in resources sector.
Engaged by a global organisation in late 2020, we designed a bespoke and structured program within the business’ leadership and cultural capability framework. Over 6-12 months, we supported hundreds of leaders, both in-field and in head office, to increase their leadership capability and competence to drive towards organisational objectives within new ways of working, business models and frameworks.
The diversity and experience of PCA’s coaching team allowed us to match our coaches to the client’s objectives. We carefully selected the right coaches for the culture and desired outcomes, so that we could support leaders to adapt to change and perform effectively in new operational models.
Underpinned by a strong partnership with the HR team, alignment to corporate values and expectations, and excellent project management, the program was highly successful. Measured results surpassed expectations and included improved performance against leadership capability requirements, increased fluency in behavioural expectations, improved safety behaviours and increased engagement and satisfaction.
Leaders reported surprising personal transformational results aside from meeting corporate objectives, with one stating that this was the “best leadership program [they] have participated in over 20 years”

Growing capability in virtual problem-solving, facilitation and teaming
With the impact of COVID-19 in early 2020, PCA was quick to pivot to facilitation of virtual workshops for a project team spread geographically across the globe. Working with hundreds of project team members and their contractors for over 3 years, we have provided leadership coaching, facilitation of alignment workshops, and a series of Lessons Learned sessions, whilst growing internal capability in virtual problem solving and teaming.
- Coaching for 30 key leaders, including safety leadership coaching for package leads to provide them with the confidence to lead safety effectively/to be highly effective safety leaders
- Annual alignment workshops for the leadership team to identify key focus areas, including tactical project delivery and behavioural and teaming priorities
- Roles & Responsibilities workshops which were significant for some of the key relationships where inter-functional teaming was critical for project success, particularly at crucial handover points
- Lessons Learned series of 10 workshops across the different areas of the project, with each workshop hosted virtually to include participants from across the globe. The design of these workshops has been very innovative and showcased globally to demonstrate different ways of running sessions using digital tools.
Key success factors:
Maintaining the same consultant on the project so they had intimate project knowledge, and the ability to carry outcomes from previous workshops into the following sessions.
- Strategic design of virtual sessions to ensure the highest impact and engagement. As a key component of the project was for it to be fun, the ability of PCA to bring lightness to workshops so that it was enjoyable experience event when the subject matter might not be traditionally fun topics. Fun, efficient and outcome-based workshops: Appreciated the efficiency and careful planning of workshops. These were designed so that they minimised the time in room by optimising pre-work and time between sessions. A small core team would take a subject matter then bring everyone together for alignment and problem-solving. No workshop was longer than it needed to be due to real partnership with the sponsor and detailed planning. People would go into next workshop with confidence that it would be worth their time.
- Capability development: Identifying key people in the team to transfer skills to, growing their confidence and capability to facilitate in partnership with PCA. Coached the HR Business Partner so they could co-deliver some of the sessions
- It was critical for the client that they had access to a subject matter expert in virtual and digital tools. For a project which has globally placed team members they needed a facilitator who was strong in virtual facilitation, who could also train project team members in how to facilitate virtually and use digital tools.

Skill Building with Care
We have delivered a number of coach training programs over the years and continue to receive exceptional reviews. We are passionate about developing others and growing the coaching community.
In 2020 and 2021, PCA delivered a skill building program to an organisation in the health services sector to enable stretched health care service professionals to become more empowered in their service delivery using a coaching approach. The program developed capability in over 60 people, including the Leadership Team, to build partnerships with clients, manage their workloads and drive outcomes while looking after themselves, so that they can continue to look after others.
As subject matter experts in coaching, our training team are also highly experienced in learning design and delivery.
We customised the program so that it was relevant and practical, allowing participants to build a toolkit they could apply directly to their work situation. The tailored content was delivered in an engaging and interactive format, where participants felt supported and encouraged.

Facilitating Rapid Team Development
Clients in public and private sector spread across many industries consistently report that in a short amount of time PCA can work with teams to bring out their best by creating increased clarity, trust, and more efficient ways of working together towards higher results.
PCA recently partnered with a large corporate organisation for a series of team development workshops for multiple teams across their operations. Providing a customised experience for each team, we took to the time to understand the context and specific needs to then deliver exactly what each team needed. The different workshops covered team goals and objectives, team charters, ways of working, preferred strategies and increasing efficiencies in processes. These were delivered in a way that also built relationships and grew trust, so that teams could work together towards higher results. One team reported that PCA accomplished in one day what they had been grappling with for 2 years.
For the Operational Leadership Team, the general managers had been working to create a new operational model and our diagnosis revealed that there was significant misalignment within the team about the model which had not been addressed because the team members were fearful to speak up and challenge. Within a short time, we were able to identify the friction points and misalignment and build enough trust and safety within the team to address these in a respectful way.

Our Approach
Diagnosis: Our effective diagnosis approach began before we got in the room and involved partnering with the leaders in co-designing and planning, conducting individual interviews with team members, and analysis of existing data. This allowed us to understand what was really going on for the team and identify key levers for higher team performance to achieve the results they needed to achieve.
- Psychological Safety: We created a safe space to have the right conversations, to clear the air and move forward with strength. We are experts at reading the room and took the team where they needed to go with courage and safety.
- Blended Expertise: We drew from our experience and knowledge of what teams need to succeed (which allowed us to quickly see what was missing). Our blend of facilitation, coaching and consultation meant we could support the team to fill the gaps.
- Strength-based: Our empowered approach to development brought to life what the team was doing well. We used their existing strengths and didn’t add anything new unless it was useful (we only introduced one very simple new model). This meant that the work and transformation happened in the room, so no one left with a huge to-do list.
The team now report that their relationships have never been stronger, and their new alignment has created faster decisions and a more trust in their team across the organisation. The success of this 2-day workshop has led them to requesting PCA to continue to partner with them for further development in the year ahead.
Agile Cultural Transformation
An iconic WA institution with over 4,000 employees was needing to integrate parts of its business without disrupting a very busy workforce. With few resources on hand to enable this to happen, PCA was engaged to manage the project using Agile. In a short amount of time (a 3-month period) the project was defined, and objectives were clarified and enacted. Using Agile sprints work scopes were simplified and implemented with high employee engagement and satisfaction.
With Certified Scrum Masters on our team, we often apply Agile to the development of individuals, teams, and organisational culture because we believe in rapid, value-focused transformation and development.

It makes us happy when you are happy
For over 20 years our work has been 100% word of mouth referrals. Our clients love what we do, and we love celebrating their success. We’re confident you’ll like us too.
To a person, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. One of our participants even said it was “life changing” in the sense that it has given him a new view on his approach to delivering value to clients. It’s been exciting to see the level of enthusiasm coming from our team.

Very valuable process, that was adaptable to the current leadership challenges. Since I had the same coach during the entire period, she gained valuable insight to the [business unit] and my team. She was able to build upon previous observations and understanding of my leadership team and our project.
Thank you very much for such engaging style and deep dive program. Literally everyone came to me afterwards with compliments to you and your facilitation.
